Brilliant — Norway RV Rental Review

We rented a van for a week to tour the Western Fjords. It was an amazing experience and would highly recommend McRent and Motorvana. Dana at the Stevanger depot was brilliant and could not have been more helpful.

Adventures in South Norway

Me and my wife had a great experience with our rental through Motorvana! It was my first time booking and driving camper so I was a little bit stressed, however I didn't have any troubles with the check-in/pickup and the drop-off. What I really liked about Motorvana is all the info and details they have in the website - very useful, compared with other service providers. Also during my time of booking there was a high demand and yet Motrovana managed to provide the exact same camper I select from their webpage - thanks and keep up the good work! The camper provided to us from Touring Cars was brand new, which was a very pleasant surprise! So... looking forward to our next destination and camper/motor home experience!

Best regards, Ivo and Ellie

Wonderful Vendor

Vendor met all our expectations during both check-in and return, and the vehicle provided was exactly what we ordered. Our 24-day trip in Norway was wonderful and the vendor provided us a short ride to the nearby train station upon our return at no additional cost (as suggested in the contract). Well done Motorvana and McRent -- if we decide to do this again, we'll definitely rent through you!

Everything about the rental experience was perfect. What was astonishing was the delight of having Dana a long for the ride. Her personality and professionalism were stellar. She is your finest ambassador!

Motorhome Holiday Norway

Excellent holiday! Flawless organization between Motorvana and McRent. Were picked up at the airport and dropped easily at the Jessheim pick-up point. Van was clean and perfectly arranged with everything we needed for a week's roaming between Oslo and Bergen. Can't fault anything and thank both staffs warmly for their help and kindness throughout the bookings and hiring process. Thank you.

Norway a picture postcard

What a fantastic way to see Norway, with the motorhome we were as free as the birds. Every corner you turned, every mountain you drove over was just like a picture postcard. The infrastructure in Norway was just amazing, from trains, buses and mobile network was just bliss. The locals were so helpful and friendly and very welcoming. The motorhome from McRent was just perfect, only downside there was no grill or trays to use in oven so had to cook everything on the gas rings. We also had a slight accident where the sudden wind came and took out our awning and are awaiting outcome from McRent. The campsites were amazing and good value for money. This has not stopped us wanting to return to Norway so we can discover the northern area, and will definitely use a Motorhome again. It was definitely worth the two year wait due to covid.

Fantastic Experience and Great Fun!

We rented a Family 5 RV from Touring Cars. We were picked up at the airport by the company in their van and taken to the depot where they keep the RVs. Ursula was incredibly friendly and helpful and the checkout process was easy and straightforward. She explained how to use all of the features of the RV and to contact her at anytime if we had any issues. We set off and over the course of 5 days drove over 1000km through Norway. The RV was everything we were looking for - it was brand new, everything worked perfectly, the ride was great, and we had a lot of fun. The beds were easy to set up and take down, the toilet worked well and was very spacious, the kitchen area was easy to use and we cooked often on the stove top. The fridge worked great and overall I would do this again. We found some great camping sites in Norway - and really enjoyed the countryside. Motorvana team was super helpful and patient with us and they were a great source for ensuring we got the right RV with the right company. Thanks!

Explore Norway with a Motorhome is best

Norway like New Zealand is the best place in summers to explore in a motorhome. We are a bit late to decide on getting to Norway and didn't get the vehicle on our exact desired dates because of high season but the efforts of Motorvana were commendable to get one for us. The response from them was always very quick for any questions so they did there part perfectly. The vehicle we got from Mcrent was good except for some glitches as constantly showing "check engine" on the screen which kept us on the edge always. We were always on the move and could not get thru the roadside assistance phone as it would not go through. A genuine advise I would like to give is call the roadside number from phone when you pickup the vehicle so when needed you can get through them seamlessly. Apart from that it was a perfect trip and worth the 5 stars.

Camper

Me and 3 of my buddies graduated from college in the U.S., and wanted to explore Norway. We decided to rent a camper and take advantage of the freedom to roam law. We are so glad we did! Our rental process was smooth, and we made life-long memories hiking and exploring the beautiful country. I think a campervan / RV is the best way to see Norway, and I would definitely recommend using McRent if you are interested in a trip like this!

Easy experience

Great and easy experience to reserve the camping car. When we arrived it was a bit hectic for airport hotel pick up but it eventually was managed. Very thorough check out process on the Camping cars. Very knowledgeable helpful staff.

One stove burner stopped working and Check Engine light came on. Burner was a manufacturer problem that was just in convenience. But check engine light we were told just comes on and off. So that left a vacation with a level of anxiety if something will break down in the middle of nowhere. But everything worked out great and no issues.

Excellent experience. We were very lucky: at our first experience we were given a campervan with only 23 km! Everything was just new and fine. Both on picking up and on return, Mc Rent personnel was very nice and helpful. Everything was clearly explained. Communcations from Motorvana were quite clear and complete. Norway is a wonderful country, we'll come back for sure!

Very good experience

We are a young Italian couple, me and my girlfriend Chiara, 26 and 25 years old. We booked a small RV for 7 days through MOTORVANA. We picked it up in Tromso, from TouringCars; they took us to the airport and about an hour later we were already on our RV. The vehicle was clean and had no problems whatsoever. It drives very well even in winter conditions. Unfortunately during the winter the low temperatures greatly complicate the use of water on board (you will ALWAYS keep the engine running, or be connected to an external power source to prevent water from freezing at night, breaking pipes and pump ) so we decided not to fill the water tank at all. Be aware that in winter the numerous campsites (I speak for what I saw) from Tromso to Lofoten are closed and do not have showers for campers (again because they freeze), the only thing they can offer you (at NOK 200 for night around) is the socket. So if you want to take a shower you will have to sleep in some place and park your camper as if it were a normal car. That said, in winter you don't sweat (minus 10 degrees of average) and 2 showers were enough for us. The holiday is 90% on the road and it's worth it, as everything around you is a beautiful picture; you will stop 1000 times to take pictures. The nice part of the camper is that you can eat anywhere and save a lot on food and above all sleep anywhere. We always stopped in the panoramic areas, so in the morning you will find yourself in front of breathtaking landscapes.

Excellent holiday!

This was the first time we'd hired a motorhome and we had a great time touring western Norway around Stavanger and Bergen. Collection and drop off was straight forward with the guys at Serlandets Carvansenter in Algard near Stavanger who were very friendly and helpful. The motorhome (a Sunlight T67) was for 4 people and very well designed. Our two young sons grabbed the rear sleeping area as their den and we slept in the drop down bed over the eating area. For the first couple of nights we stayed in campgrounds but after that we realised that this was unnecessary as given the right to roam in Norway it is easy to find places to park up off the beaten track away from the main roads. There are designated tourist routes in Norway that tend to be very quiet with plenty of spaces to pull up off the road. There are also plenty of places where you can dispose of your waste and fill up with water without charge. The scenery in Norway is stunning and hiring a motorhome is a great way to get around, especially with young children and a holiday that we as a family would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent experience booking Solica motorhome with Motorvana

We spent 2 weeks touring Norway with a motorhome booked with Solica via Motorvana and we strongly recommend both companies. Frederick at Motorvana was very helpful and responsive. The booking process was easy and all was as planned when we picked up the motorhome. Solica is not a big motorhome renter but they know their motorhomes very well. Timo, the manager, provides very good service and so does the rest of his crew. When we had questions during the trip, Timo was very responsive and helpful. When we booked, the last motorhome available was a Large, with a top bunk and a double bed at the back. This was not our preferred choice, but it was the only type left and we felt lucky because none of the other vendors had any motorhome for rent left. A week before we picked up, I emailed Timo and told him that if somehow a motorhome with a bunk bed (rather than a double bed) became available, we would really like it. We were so happy when we saw that they had given us a Large motorhome with 2 bunk beds, which was so much better for our kids than sharing a bed or transforming the dining table every day. They didn't have to do that but Solica went over and beyond to provide us the type of motorhome we preferred. The motorhomes are in very good condition, well maintained. I would recommend for renters to ask for blinds for the upper bunk if none are fitted. Timo got us removable ones that worked great. All in all, a great experience.

Norway, 12 days oslo pick up, tromso drop off

Motorvana was great with the reservation. Ours was a bit complicated as it was pick up from Oslo and drop off in Tromso, but we didn't have any problems, the only minor thing is that Touringcars location is about an hour north of Oslo, and pick up MUST be arranged with them in advance, don't expect to just walk in during office hours. the motorhome was in good condition and relatively straight forward to use, it would have been great if there was a back camera to see for parking. the information Video we watched should have been for the specific motorhome we were going to drive ( e.g. various gas connection were irrelevant). Maps on camp ground location were provided, but Norway is busy in the summer and many campsites didn't have vacancy with electric connection, so best to arrive before it's late night. touringcars had a hotline that we called when we had questions about the motorhome which was great. BBQ and mosquito repellents were provided as booked. Bedding and utensils were clean, although did not include Cups or glasses. All in all good motor home, great service from Motorvana and touringcars, tight roads, beautiful scenery but Norway is expensive like no place else. safe travels to all.

Norway - Trondheim to Bergen

My wife, son, and I had an incredible time touring the Western portion of Norway in our RV. It was our first RV rental ever and Solica was wonderful to work with. Excellent experience

First time in an RV for my wife and I. We met friends at the Solica depot; friends who live half the year in an RV and together traveled around the fjords for two weeks. The trip was excellent with the camper having only one minor problem. The unit was pretty new with just under 20,000 kilometres on the clock and all the major units (brakes, steering, engine) behaving without problems. Although I am not used to a vehicle of this size I found it relatively easy to drive on the highway and to maneuver. The interior was adequate without being overly generous on space. The interior features (water, gas stove, refrigerator, lights, toilet, shower) worked just fine. Their was ample storage space both in the exterior garage and interior drawer/closets but little hanging space.

We had one minor problem and contacted Solica by phone who advised us on the location of the main interior circuit breaker which after resetting it fixed our problem.

The only minor criticisms I have is that; (1) the supplied (extra cost) utensils are really cheesy and could include additional items (cups for example); and, (2) the power cord to attach to campground electrical hookups was far too short - one really needs the reel type cord most RV owners use.

The people at Solica were excellent on both check-out and check-in. On check-out they patiently explained the features and operation of the camper and on check-in they examined the state of the unit, checked the amount of tolls we had incurred and we were on our way.

Great time

We were a little hesitant to rent an RV at first but the folks at Solica made it so easy! We had a great time, we got great service and a really nice and fully equipped RV. We even had wifi although Solica also gave us maps. We spent 14 wonderful days on the road. This is definitely the way to see Norway and we thought it was such a wonderful country. Make sure they show you how put the rv in reverse and how to use the downhill button, it's a little different than the US.

Great service, smooth.

Motorvana were an excellent company to do business with. I booked a motorhome through them and I couldn't ask for a better service. I had a query regarding a change in McRent's policies which would have changed our drop-off, and Motorvana were quick and professional to respond. McRent were also excellent and we were able to drop off our van quickly and with no issues, and weren't charged anything extra. The van itself was a globecar 600l, it was great to drive and felt reliable, and we were able to enjoy hot showers (once we worked out how to operate the boiler...and the freeze protection). We did a loop from Oslo to the Arctic and travelled through Sweden and Denmark, as well as Norway, we incurred some toll charges in Sweden, which McRent were happy to pay. I'd definitely recommend a motorhome holiday around Scandinavia as it was the best way to see everything in a few weeks.

Motorvana great! McRent needs improvement

The booking through Motorvana worked out great. We got everything we booked and even an upgrade to a bigger vehicle, which of course meant much higher fuel consumption but also more space and it was brand new.

The only downside: the McRent clerk unfortunately seemed to be a temp who didn't really know how everything worked. It took him forever to do all the paperwork and we even had to point out, what and where we needed to sign and what we needed a copy of, so we got our proper contracts, He also seemed a bit stressed, since 2 parties required service at the same time, which left him a bit ill-humoured.

Overall a good experience, though. I would definately book through Motorvana again.

THIS is the way to travel through Norway when you have relatives in some places, but want to explore the country and possible ancestral homes. Norway Adventure

The Motor home itself was incredible and had everything we needed.

First time I ever used a motor home and loved it. Did not even use a camp site once on our trip.

Best way to see Norway would be in a motor home. Travelling across the Fjords and beautiful landscapes of Norway as well as the small fishing villages and mountains, creeks and streams.

McRent was professional in all aspects and would definately use them again unless I purchase my very own motor home.

The whole experience with Motorvana and Solica was excellent. Very simple to arrange, we picked the motorhome up in Stavanger and dropped it off 2 weeks later in Tromso, Norway.

The motorhome was lovely, well equipped, spacious and clean.

All in a fantastic holiday and service! Thankyou.

Norway Roadtrip 2015

We rented a motorhome from Touring Cars in September 2015. The motorhome was new and perfectly functioning. We drove many tourist roads in Norway and found them to be very narrow so a bit stressful, especially when approaching curves and not being able to see what vehicles are coming in the opposite direction. Also, beware that diesel pumps are marked black in Norway but green in the US. We had some engine trouble caused by us which was handled quickly by Touring Cars staff. Be very careful of the kitchen counter and table top. Apparently they are made with materials that are light in weight but not durable. The cost for replacement is > $1500 US. We found the bath houses at all NAF campgrounds to be better than those in the US. All campgrounds we stayed at had free wifi too. Be careful of speeding and watch out for the cameras.

Overall we had a great trip and the motorhome was comfortable. Being able to cook our own meals saved us a bundle of money! We would rent from Touring Cars again.

have booked from Motorvana a camp-car for 4 people during 7 days with collection in Bergen and restitution in Klofta (Oslo)-Norway/July 2014.

Solica provided us a very new vehicule fulfilling all our needs. Explanations (from Timo) were perfectly clear and honest. Time taken for the check-in and check-out was ideal: we had all our time to ask all our questions, and to check the vehicule; but it was not too long. well, we faced no problem on the road.

The main improvement could be to have in the motorhome, a registered card for the tolls on the roads (otherwise to pay for the tolls, you have to use an application to declare your identity and the dates of the rental towards the registration number of the RV).

We had an urgent question about the place of collection and requested Motorvana to bring us their support. We expected, and did have, a prompt answer about this issue: Doug replied very quickly, showing a great reliability, as in all the management of our dossier. Great professionalism.

Thus, I'll trust Motorvana for a next booking. Thanks.

The motorhome was 1 year old. The motorhome was comfortable, reliable and we managed to drive over 2,500 km without any problem. All the equipment worked well. When we returned the motorhome, the final check was smooth and the local team took us to the airport. We would definitely rent from Motorvana again.

The camper van we picked up was in pristine condition and the reception staff at Touring Cars were multilingual, friendly, efficient, and informative. We have absolutely no complaints. Quite the opposite — we enjoyed the whole experience, felt that we received excellent service and good value for money. The camp sites we stayed on were all first class — clean (especially the sanitation blocks) and spacious. We're already planning a similar holiday next year!

This has been our first experience in a motorhome. In our country, this kind of trips are not so common as in the north of Europe, so we had many doubts before making up our minds. Motorvana web page was really useful.

From the very beginning we have felt we have made the right decision. Choosing Motorvana and Touring Cars was a great idea. Both the booking and the pick up/drop off process have been really easy. The girl who went to pick us up in the airport (Nina) was really nice and she gave us all the instructions to use the MH. We had no trouble at all. Furthermore, all the questions we had during the booking process were answered very quickly by e-mail.

We would like to repeat this experience in the future. Unfortunately, it is a bit expensive so we have to save some money until we can repeat!!!

Thank you so much for this great experience!!

Having read a number of reviews, we are in agreement with most points noted thus far. Pick up great,.. but a little tedious and painstaking, service people fantastic, and the run down on the vehicle great. It was a little daunting for me, however, being an automatic, left hand drive vehicle driver for 35 years, to have to alter to a manual, right hand side driver for this trip!! A few trips around the block though soon sorted this problem out!! The trip around Norway was brilliant, but remember to account for the numerous ferry tolls you will have to pay, as well as the road tolls!! The basic inclusions were OK in the home, but as others have stated, tables & chairs, chocks, and a taoster would be a valuable addition to your vehicles, at no cost. As the items are basically non destructible, (!!), you will be getting your dollars back for them 100 times over by making your clients pay for them, (hmmm).

Finally the hand over we had was not too bad, but others at the depot at the same time were being hit with fault notices on their vehicles, which in fairness seemed excessive, and expensive, so watch out!!

Overall a very pleasant experience, and rest assured that if the Norwegian ecomony ever crumbles, we'll be back in a flash!!! Happy driving!!

We picked up the RV in Oslo. Everything was arranged fine. The pick up procedure was done really good by a very polite stuff member. We traveled to Trondheim (to watch our favorite football team, ARIS, playing againts Rosenborg) and drove back to Oslo via Bergen. It took us a week. It was an excellent experience. Norway is a beautyfull country and I think the best way to travel is with a camper. There are a lot, and most of them really nice places to park either for a break or for nightstaying. I have to express my conserns about the drop off procedure. A big dent was found on the top of the RV that I can not imagine what caused it but since I had signed that everything was fine when we picked up the RV I did not really argue about it since I thought it is meaningless. But it will cost me a lot (a still do not know the exact amount) the stuff at drop off told me. I did not ready the review board before. If I had i would have been more carefull at pick up.

campercars are strong (model ford, mid size camper), interieur not quite so good. check the wooden base board in the rear seats (it ist quite a weak board to begin with and wears off fast) we had to improvise and support it, unused toilet chemicals are not taken back which was a bit weird, service was good, value for money? Hey if you want and can afford to go to Norway, thats a good way to remain flexible!

Motorvana organised for us the rental of a motorhome from Touring Cars from 12-25 June 2010. Touring Cars collected us from Oslo airport and drove us to their depot where we had a full briefing on the use of the vehicle. The staff were very helpful and patient (this was our first experience of motorhome life) and gave us lots of useful information. We drove from Oslo to Tromso in June ... the vehicle was cosy and warm and we managed to eat well, despite the limited cooking facilities. We found that the vehicle was nimble enough to cope with city as well as highway driving and we explored several places en route. The return journey was in slightly better weather and by now we were more confident about "wild" camping away from campsites. This made us completely free to choose the time and place of our overnight stops - very liberating! We had a fantastic time in Norway and would certainly recommend what we did to friends. It is unlikely that we will rent again, however, as we are now sold on the idea of buying our own motorhome! What we would suggest to others includes: 1 Don't go for the minimum size. Extra space is great, especially if it means you don't have to assemble the bed every night! 2 Don't feel tied to campsites. Try side roads and lake sides (being careful not to cause damage or leave litter, of course!) 3 Eating out in Norway is hugely expensive. However, supermarket shopping is reasonable and there are are some wonderful things that are new to UK palates. We loved the smoked salmon and are so glad we happened on the cloudberry jam by accident - now addicted! The whale meat got one yes and one no in our family!! 4 We thought that the motorhome kitchen equipment was a bit basic and would have benefited from simple things that we have told Touring Cars about. 5 The road toll system in Norway takes some getting used to. We were led to believe we could pay at Post Offices, which turned out to be incorrect and so we lost the chance to pay. It should have been possible to register and pay up to 1 4 days after the first charge but for some technical reason this proved difficult. We suggest that overseas visitors register at www.autopass.no - Visitors' Payment before travelling.

In summary, we had a great time and would recommend both Motorvana and Touring Cars to anyone. Thanks to them both!

We drove 9 days through South Norway, visiting the most beautiful landscapes. The Motorvana's staff were very kind and professional. They explained us everything about our RV, so we had no problem in our fisrt experience with this type of vehicles. The van was comfortable and almost new. We are sure we will repeat experience visiting Finland soon!
