England's famously narrow, hedged and sinuous country roads
amount to a rather intimidating proposition, motorhome-wise. This not
to mention one's prudent concern, perhaps,
about driving on the "wrong" side of the road there.
Yet this complexity is more inviting than prohibitive, attending,
as it does,
the very complexity of the land and culture.
Add Scotland
especially the Highlands and Wales to the mix and you have
a geographically diverse island Great Britain which truly lends itself to motorhome travel.
What's more, experienced European motorhomers tend to consider the campgrounds of
the United Kingdom "outstanding" and the "best in Europe."
A majority of these campgrounds are located on orchards
and other farms specially prepared to accommodate motorhome campers.
Likewise the UK's Caravan Club as well as its Camping and Caravanning Club
(see "Resources" at left) are generally considered the most effective such clubs
in Europe.
All told, England, Scotland and Wales and, we should put in,
Ireland are a rather ideal ground for a home on wheels.
All the vehicles available for pick-up in the UK are of course
right-hand drive (RHD), and they have a manual transmission. The
vehicles are not equipped with air conditioning.
Provided that you purchase the appropriate insurance addendum(s),
the Great Britain-based vehicles can be taken (by ferry or the Channel Tunnel) to
Ireland and/or the continent. Relative to the continent the steering wheel will not be on the most appropriate side of the vehicle.
Though it is perfectly legal to drive such vehicle on the continent,
the driver will typically not be able to see around immediately preceding
vehicles well enough to overtake these vehicles and will therefore in this
respect need to rely on the eyes of a trusted passenger.
All our Great Britain rentals include unlimited kilometers.
One-way rentals are possible between England and Scotland;
i.e. in both directions. The one-way fee is GBP297.
Minimum rental durations are: 14 days if the duration begins in June,
July or August, or if pick-up occurs in Scotland;
and 7 days otherwise. You can actually return a vehicle earlier, but up front you
would have to pay as if you were renting it for the minimum duration.
