All KEA's
New Zealand camper rentals include liability insurance
(i.e. third party insurance).
The KEA camper rentals also include collision and
comprehensive insurance.
All these aspects of the included insurance inhere a deductible
(a.k.a. excess; applicable no matter who is at fault) of AUD 5000, but
clients can reduce this figure to either AUD 2000 or all the way to zero
by purchasing
one of two optional damage waivers (a.k.a. excess reductions):
The second of these damage waivers furthermore extends the coverage
to multiple repairs and replacements of the windshield and tires.
Both these damage waivers also have positive effects in terms of the
security deposit due to KEA upon the pick-up occasion:
the default security deposit is
AUD 5000 to be actually debited, i.e. charged, to a credit card
(namely Visa or MasterCard)
or accepted in terms of cash or traveler's check;
damage waiver 1 reduces this amount
to AUD 2000 and entails a mere imprint of a credit card rather than an
actual debit, cash or traveler's check;
damage waiver 2 reduces the amount to AUD 250, to be actually debited
or accepted as cash or traveler's check.
If a credit card is used to place such deposit,
the card holder must be present upon the pick-up
occasion and is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the
rental vehicle. Generally the security deposit is fully refundable
on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date,
with no damage incurred to the vehicle or third party property and
with the toilet cassette and waste water tank emptied and no items
lost or damaged. In case of any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle
or third party property a second security deposit will be collected
by KEA Campers to cover the deductible for any subsequent damage.
Of course as is generally the case in the auto insurance industry,
the insurance deductibles apply per occurrence, i.e. per accident/incident.
Damage to the overhead or underbody of the vehicle is
not covered unless the all-inclusive package
is selected. See our Accessories page for details of that package.
The IdeaMerge online reservation system will help you determine whether
the inclusive package is the best deal for you.
The term comprehensive above signifies
vehicular damage due to vandalism, fire, theft of the vehicle, break-in, and weather,
as well as towing and recovery costs but not —
except as otherwise noted —
damage to the windowshield and tires.
Importantly this term
also signifies the cost of the daily rental for the duration the vehicle
is off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage); which is to say, this cost
is considered a damage. The deductible/excess is applicable
no matter who is at fault;
but if the client is shown to be not at fault
and KEA is successful in recovering damages from the other party, the
client will be refunded appropriately
(although such process can take several months).
Exclusions:
No smoking is permitted in the vehicles.
No animals/pets are permitted in the vehicles, with
the possible exception of seeing-eye dogs.
Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to damage
consequent of vehicle submersion,
creek or river crossing, driving through low plain flooded areas,
beach driving.
Personal belongings.
Damage due to the incorrect use of fuel.
Damage caused when using the vehicle in contravention of any
applicable legislation or regulations controlling vehicular traffic.
The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged,
submerged, abandoned, or the like.
The cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys
which have been locked in a vehicle.
The insurance coverage is void if the terms of the rental
agreement signed between KEA and the client are breached by the client.
As such, the client will be responsible for the total cost of any damage
caused by negligence, willful misconduct
or driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, as well as any
damage that occurs while
the vehicle contains more than the maximum number of occupants allowed
or while the vehicle is being driven by a person not identified on the
rental agreement, or while the vehicle is being driven by a
person whose drivers license is cancelled
or suspended or classified as a learner's or probationary license.
The vehicles may be driven on sealed/bitumen/macadam/paved or well
maintained roads only. The 4WD vehicles are allowed on recognized 4WD tracks.
Special terms and conditions apply for travel in the following areas:
Cape York, Simpson Desert, Gunbarrel Highway, Canning Stock Route,
Oondnadatta Track, Birdsville Track, the Warburton Road, Tanami Track,
Gibb River Road and any other area in excess of 100 kilometers from the
nearest sealed road.
Kea reserves the right at its sole discretion
to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or
weather conditions.
breakdown cover and repairs
For starters, the fleet of vehicles is modern and frequently upgraded,
the average age of a vehicle normally being less than 1 year.
All the vehicles do include roadside service nationwide,
accessible from 8:00 to 20:00 (8:00 pm)
by way of tel. 0800 252 556
(toll free).
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure,
should be reported to KEA
as soon as possible within 24 hours, this to give KEA the
opportunity to rectify the problem without delay. Failure to report
as such will compromise any client claims for compensation;
Kea does not accept liability for claims submitted after this duration.
Repairs costing up to AUD 100 may be effected without
authorization from
Kea and will be appropriately reimbursed if the client provides the repair receipt
to KEA. For amounts estimated over AUD 100, the
client should obtain authorization from KEA. Receipts relating to
any repair should be submitted to KEA.
Warning
Although motor travel in New Zealand is not
generally considered prohibitively dangerous, there are, of course,
associated risks including death. For quantitative measures
of these risks, please see the Association for Safe International Road Travel (ASIRT)
